RNAO Welcomes Two New Academic Best Practice Spotlight Organizations®

November 2015

The Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario welcomes two new Academic Best Practice Spotlight Organizations® (BPSO®) in Jamaica and Belgium!  The University of West Indies, School of Nursing, Mona in Jamaica, and in Belgium the University of Antwerp, Master Program Nursing and Midwifery, Department Nursing and Midwifery.

The University of West Indies, School of Nursing, Mona will be implementing the four guidelines over the 3 year pre-designation period: Professionalism in Nursing, Prevention of Falls and Fall Injuries in the Older Adult, Assessment and Management of Stage I to IV Pressure Ulcers, and Person- and Family Centred Care. The overall goal of their work is to enhance their nursing students' knowledge, attitude, and skills in the use of best practice guidelines in theory and clinical courses.   As part of their focus on evidence-based practice, the University is holding its 27th Annual Nursing Research Conference in May 2016. The call for abstracts for this conference is currently open. More details are available here: http://nbpru-news.rnao.ca/sites/nbpru-news.rnao.ca/files/Call for Abstracts 2016 (1).pdf

The University of Antwerp, Department Nursing and Midwifery, Master Program Nursing and Midwifery, will be implementing five guidelines during their pre-designation period: Strategies to Support Self-Management in Chronic Conditions Collaboration with Clients, End of Life Care During the Last Days and Hours, Developing and Sustaining Nursing Leadership, Developing and Sustaining Interprofessional Healthcare, and Person- and Family Centred Care. The Master Program implementing these guidelines will provide students with the opportunity to utilize this knowledge not only in theory, but in practice as they combine their work in a health care setting with their academic program.
